Estimation of the external egg quality in White Leghorn layers (L33) in the Minas municipality, Camagüey
Abstract
The volume was calculated by displacement of liquid in test tubes with two isotonic solutions and distilled water and the egg surface of commercial layers White Leghorn line L33, from 3 to 4 months of posture, obtained in unit 26 José Antonio Echeverría, which belongs to the National Poultry Company, Minas municipality, Camagüey province, Cuba. Its diameters (major and minor) were measured, following the methodology of Narushin (2005), to calculate its surface. To evaluate the volume, a completely random design was executed and the treatments were given by three solutions: two isotonic and another one of distilled water. The variables for external egg quality (volume, surface, weight and shape index) were measured. The correlations between the weight and volume per displacement and the surface were determined. The variables that presented high correlations were estimated the regression equation for the calculation of one in relation to the other, using for the volume as a function of the weight the linear equation y = 1.59 + 0.91x, with r2 = 81, 4 and for the surface as a function of weight another linear equation y = 25.63 + 0.78x with r2 = 77. Average values were obtained for the weight 58.89 g (weight), 55 cm3 (volume), (75% (shape index) and 71.7 cm2 (surface).
