Post-weaning growth in males of the Chacuba bovine genotype
Abstract
In the company "Rescate de Sanguily" of Camagüey, Cuba, the non-genetic factors that affect the final weight (PF), the weight by age (PPE) and the final weight gain (GPF) were determined, and the parameters were estimated. in the behavior test of males of the Chacuba cattle genotype. The information of the entity, the National Genetics Directorate and the Animal Control Centers of Camagüey and Havana were used. For the statistical processing of the data, SAS and ASREML packages were used. Values were 334.8 kg (PF), 659.2 g (PPE) and 528.7 g (GPF), with average heritabilities of 0.21, 0.30 and 0.15, respectively for the growth post-weaning The genetic correlations were high and positive, which indicated that the selection for PF, PPE and GPF is not antagonistic between them, and the selection for one of them separately causes improvements in the rest; nevertheless, the environmental impact on these herds was evident.
