Reproductive behavior in free riding of three dairy genotypes
Abstract
Records of 276 deliveries that occurred between 1997 and 2004 were used in a commercial herd with 5/8 Holstein x 3/8 Cebu dairy genotypes; F1 Creole x Cebu and 3/4 Cebu x 1/4 Holstein with ages between 28 and 125 months that in conditions of free riding with Cebu dairy stallions (3/4 Cebu x 1/4 Holstein) exploited in a self-consumption farm of the Province of Ciego de Avila, Cuba. The objective was to determine the best genotype of the mother by the behavior of the labor-delivery interval and the genetic and non-genetic factors capable of altering said trait such as: genotype of the mother (3), sex of the offspring (2), number of births of the mother (6), time of delivery in bimester (6) and year of delivery (8). For the statistical analysis, a linear model adjusted by the least squares method SPSS (2001) was used; The general mean and its standard deviations for the trait studied were estimated. The factors that affected (P <0.001) were: genotypes of the mother, sex of the offspring and number of births. The best genotypes were 3/4 Cebu x 1/4 Holstein with 459.08 ± 19.65 days and F1 Creole x Cebu with 468 ± 21.38 that differ from 5/8 Holstein x 3/8 Cebu with 500 ± 19.56. The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained was 68.5%.
