Effect of milk price change on some indicators of milk production and short-term forecast
Abstract
A study was carried out on 160 dairy farms (dairy production units) belonging to a livestock company in the municipality of Camagüey, Cuba, to assess the effect of an external and global factor such as the increase in milk prices on the main productive indicators of a set of milk production units, where the registered variables referring all to a period that covers the ten-year records of each year from 1996 to 2002 (288 observations) were: total milk production, milk production sold to the collecting company , births, milking cows, females in reproduction, total deaths and death of young. It was determined that the sale of milk at a higher price influenced an increase in milk production independent of the time, but did not improve reproductive results. After the change in the price of milk, adult and offspring mortality decreased. Keywords: milk production, milk price, births, milking cows, deaths
