Economic losses due to eggs of heavy breeders not suitable for incubation (deformed, small, large and rough)
Abstract
Economic losses due to non-suitable eggs, i.e., showing deformities, small, large, and with rough shell, for hatching were determined at a heavy-broiler breeding center in Camagüey province. The highest losses were registered in the 2-3 month-old stock with a total of 6 839 eggs, followed by the 11-12 month-old stock with 1 440 eggs, and lastly, the 7-8 month-old stock with 767 eggs in total. In relation to egg types, significant differences were detected: higher losses were registered for eggs with physical deformities (54 %), then for small eggs (39 %), and finally for eggs with rough shell and large eggs (3 and 4 %, respectively) without any significant difference between the last ones. Daily economic losses centered themselves in eggs deliverance for consumption instead of hatching reaching a total of $ 38,34, out of it $ 20,99 for rough shell eggs. A number of significant indexes dealing with environmental impact whether eggs had been hatched to obtain broiler chickens were also determined. Feeding, ecosystem, climate, and animal population influences were analyzed. The relation between economic benefits and environment proved to be non-contradictory.
