Cryofactura to obtain necrotoxins produced by necrotizing E. coli
Abstract
Cryofacture was substituted for mitomycine C to obtain cytolitic necrotic factors (CNF) out of six hemolytic and P fimbria-carrier E. coli strains (two of them isolated from meals and four from diarrheic children under five years old). Differentiation of CNF1 and CNF2 toxins was performed through foot mouse inoculation. The six E. coli strains proved their necrotic character: five producing CNF2 and the other, CNF1. Except CNF2+ strain, the remaining ones were lethal. Results showed the possibility of isolating CNF necrotoxins through cryofrcture. Therefore, this method can be an option to study necrotic E. coli in veterinary medicine, taking into account the role played by bovines as a reservoir of this potentially zoonosic category.
