Partial characterization of the K88ab fimbria epitope of Escherichia coli (ECET) recognized by a monoclonal antibody directed towards adhesin

Abstract

A conformable epitope was partially characterized at  the  “b” region of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli K88ab.  The epitope is recognized by the  monoclonal antibody secreted by  the   hybridoma  11/70.   The   specificity  of  the   monoclonal  antibody  for  antigen detection,  was defined by the  ELISA test  and  agglutination  with  fimbrial  bacteria.  Mab 11/70  proved  its usefulness to design diagnosis systems for epizootiological studies as an essential tool for vaccination against ETEC strains in swine breeding farms.
