Reproductive behavior of the crosses of Cuban Cebu with Charolaise and Simmental in the Genetic Company “Rescue de Sanguily” of Camaguey
Abstract
Register from 7 090 calvings occurred between 1980 and 2001 in 22 female herds: Zebu, F1 (Charolaise x Zebu), ¾ Zebu x ¼ Charolaise, 5/8 Charolaise x 3/8 Zebu, Chacuba: [(♀5/8 Charolaise x 3/8 Zebu) (♂5/8 Charolaise x 3/8 Zebu)], F1 (Zebu x Simmental), ¾ Simmental x ¼ Zebu, 2,4 to 14 years old, at a Livestock Genetic Center in Camaguey province, Cuba were used to determine the best genotype according to its reproductive behaviour under the center conditions, and also a number of genetic and environmental factors such as mother genotype (6), herd number (22), calving number (12), bimonthly calving time (6) and calving years (22). Traits studied were service period and intercalving period. A linear pattern fixed by the least squares method through Systat Statistical Package was used for the statistical analysis. General average values and their standard errors were estimated for each genotype. All traits were affected (P<0,01) for mother genotype, herd, calving number, calving time and year. Determinant coefficients (R2 %) were: service period = 30 %, and intercalving period = 30 %.
