Abstract

Rates among indexes studied in usual swine fattening diet were determined, and prediction rates among some of the principal variables selected to this purpose were estimated. Information from surveys was used. Data were statistically analyzed by the program Systat 7,0 for Windows SPSS (1997). Firstly, Pearson’s correlation coefficients were determined. Then, the Principal Component Analysis was applied to every variable until the best explanation output for total variance was obtained. Less relevant variables were discarded. Finally, only 12 variables remained. VARIMAX rotation was used. Variables selected were: daily weight gain, final weight, weight at initial fattening, animals fattened during the whole year, annual fattening cycles, fattening cycle span, total liveweight in kilograms per year, number of deaths since fattening period began, feedlots size, number of swines in each feedlot, period of time carrying out fattening, daily time devoted to fattening. Rates among studied variables and two equations to estimate daily weight gain and total of meat kilograms produced in a year were obtained. Four principal components explaining more than 72 % of total variation were established.
