Artificial phimosis for the preparation of bovine receivers
Abstract
A new surgical technique is described for the preparation of bullfighting bulls in field conditions, consisting in provoking an artificial phimosis of the penis through its union with the skin. We used 20 Holstein yearlings of 14 months of average age and approximately 200 kg of live weight. After epidural anesthesia, an incision of 3 to 4 cm is made along the midline and towards the perineum; Once the penis has been exposed and released from the surrounding tissue, small incisions are made in the tunica albuginea, avoiding incision of the urethra. Finally, the suture is made with a U-shaped point, which will join the edges of the cutaneous wound with the ventral side of the penis, to promote the formation of adhesions. The postoperative period was uneventful and after 30 days the animals began to be used as distributors, manifesting a normal libido. It is recommended to extend the technique and evaluate it in other species of zootechnical interest.
