Standard weight of tilapia (Oreochromis aureus Steindachner) in Cuba
Abstract
Standard weight equations for a 75 percentil were worked out for Cuban Oreochromis aureus Steindachner from the available relevant information from each geographical regions within the country. All the weights for each 10 mm length class were sorted in descendent way in order to determine the 75th percentil. A standard weight table for each sex and both combined was determined for Cuban Oreochromis aureus. A comparison of the relative weight index of tilapia in two different moments of Alacranes reservoir is presented as an example of the index use. Application of this technique to other commercial or game fishes is suggested.
