Rapid diagnosis of the environmental impact of bufalin dairies in the Livestock Company Camagüey
Abstract
Three dairies were studied in order to quickly assess the environmental impact of flocks dedicated to the production of milk and buffalo meat of the Bufalipso breed of the Camagüey Cattle Company. The environmental impact assessment was done through the RIAM methodology (Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix of Pastakia) (1998) in its most current version (3.0-2002.09.05). The study yielded an unfavorable environmental impact assessment for the three units studied. It was determined that there is a strong impact in the physical-chemical field, in components related to the soil; as well as in the biological-ecological where the main cause is associated to the arboreal deficit. The sociological-cultural field was evaluated as positive, which is why it caused the least impact. However, in the economic-operational field there is a negative impact due to food expenses, total expenditure and cost per peso.
