Abstract

The information of 1,636 females and males of the Cebu Cubano Bermejo pray born between January 1991 and December 2000, was used in a genetic company in the province of Camagüey, Cuba, with the objective of determining the weight and gain at weaning under the genetic influence of the stallion (13) and the environmental factors of the sex of the offspring (2), age of the mother at birth (12), months of birth (12) and year of birth (10), using the birth weight as a covariate. The traits studied were weaning weight and average weaning gain. The data were analyzed using a linear model by the Minimum Square Method (SPSS, 1999), estimating the general means and their standard deviations. The best stallion for the traits studied was 5 and the worst on 10. The males surpassed the females and the weaned animals in the months of March and April of the year 1993 reached the best weights and gain at weaning, with general averages and deviations standard for males and females of 158.22 ± 32.87 and 147.88 ± 28.87 kg for weaning weight and 648.20 ± 145.05 and 598.88 ± 128.02 g for average weaning gain respectively. The coefficients of determination were low for both traits.
