Dynamic classification of dairy production systems in the Camagüey-Jimaguayú basin, Cuba
Abstract
Five milk production systems were determined based on two criteria: the level of operations and economic and biological efficiency. These systems were the Inefficient System of Low Operations coded as I and the Low-Medium Efficiency System of Medium Operations coded as III, which were repeated in 2002. The other two groups were referred to as: Low-Medium Efficiency System of Operations Low coded as II and the Medium Efficiency System of Medium-High Operations coded as IV. It was concluded that the level of operations and efficiency improved from 1998 to 2002, which led to a shift of the milk production units towards systems with better results. The presence of a greater number of livestock workers improved efficiency, the level of operations and the production of milk itself per livestock worker.
